2016 Young Artist Competition
The Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia (FSGP) 2016 Young Artist Competition is open to flutists ages 18-30 (as of January 23rd, 2016). Flutists wishing to participate in the competition must be members of FSGP and may join upon entry. Up to six entrants will be chosen from the PRELIMINARY RECORDED ROUND to compete as FINALISTS (up to two alternates will also be selected). Audio recordings (in the form of MP3 or MP4 files) must be submitted by November 1st, 2015. The FINAL ROUND will be held on Friday, January 22nd at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester, PA. The WINNERS’ RECITAL (featuring performances by the First, Second, and Third Place Winners) will be held the following day (January 23rd, 2016) at the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia Flute Fair (same location).
The FSGP Young Artist Competition is open to flutists age 18-30 (as of January 23rd, 2016).
All entrants must be members of the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia (may join with entry).
“First Place” winners from previous years are not eligible.
FIRST PLACE: $1000 / SECOND PLACE: $500 / THIRD PLACE: $250
PRELIMINARY RECORDED ROUND (COMPULSORY PIECES)

Variations: I, V, IV, VIII, XI, XII, XIV, XV, XVI, XIX, XXV, XXIV
(note: variations must be recorded in the order listed)
SONATA (APPASSIONATA) IN F-SHARP MINOR - Karg-Elert (Edition: Zimmermann)
Finalists will perform BOTH compulsory pieces from the Preliminary Recorded Round plus their choice of ONE of the following pieces:
DUO FOR FLUTE AND PIANO - Aaron Copland
SONATA FOR FLUTE AND PIANO, OPUS 23 - Lowell Liebermann
MOMENTS FOR FLUTE AND PIANO - Robert Muczynski
To enter, download and complete the following forms: Competition Entrant Application and Competition Guidelines and Requirements. These forms need to be scanned and submitted, along with recordings, and a 300-word “Performer Bio” via email to Cindy Anne Broz: firstname.lastname@example.org by November 1st, 2015. Please Note: Finalists are responsible for arranging and providing payment for their own pianists. Upon entry, the FSGP will provide a list of local pianists. It is each finalist’s responsibility to contact, determine availability for rehearsals and performances, and approve (for your own use) any pianists on the provided list.
DATES AND DEADLINES:
Completed Competition Entrant Application, Competition Guidelines and Requirements, Performer Bio (300 words), and audio recordings of compulsory pieces (in MP3 or MP4 format) must all be submitted via email by November 1st, 2015.
Finalists (up to six) and Alternates (up to two) will be notified by November 15th, 2015.
Finalists are required to submit the completed Confirmation of Intent and Agreement to Terms and Conditions by November 22nd, 2015.
Finalists are required to submit their final program choice (see FINAL ROUND REPERTOIRE/PROGRAM), along with the name and contact information for their collaborative pianists by December 20th, 2015.
The Final Round will be held on Friday, January 22nd, 2016.
The “Winners’ Recital” will be held on Saturday, January 23rd, 2016.
Important Note: Failure to meet any of the above deadlines may result in forfeiture of your “Finalist” position.
